Description



Previously known as the Senior First Aid Certificate, this course provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to manage emergency First Aid situations. Once completed, participants will obtain a First Aid certificate that is valid for three years. This course aligns to the National Guideline Standards for First Aid and meets workplace First Aid standards as determined by WorkSafe (WA).

The training is able to be delivered in a 2 day face-to-face format, or in a ‘Self paced learning’ format – involving a recommended 4-6 hours of self-study and participation in a 1 day Practical Skill Workshop which includes the standard ‘Apply first aid’, assessment.  The self paced component can be completed via a work book or online with interactive videos to assist in the learning.

Qualification Outline



The course covers:

* The principles of First Aid and its application
* Recognition and management of emergency situations
* Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
* Treatment of shock, infection, fractures, bleeding and burns
* Emergencies due to lack of oxygen, excess heat or cold
* Recognition and management of medical conditions that may need emergency care, including heart attack, stroke, asthma, diabetes and epilepsy
* Management of common medical emergencies
* Treatment of poisoning including venomous bites and stings

Pre requisites



There are no formal prerequisities, however, participants should be over 15 years of age.

Upon successful completion of the training, participants will obtain a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment in the following units of competence:

Validity



Apply First Aid is valid for 3 years. It is a recommendation of the Australian Resuscitation Council that the CPR component is updated every 12 months
