
Description
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base in a wide variety of contexts. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others with some limited responsibility for the output of others. This qualification would suit an OHS officer in a full-time dedicated role who works under the supervision of an OHS Coordinator or OHS Manager.
Duration
The Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety consists of 9 Units of Competency.
The face to face program for the Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety runs over a period of 9 training days with 12 months to complete the assessment tasks and projects. The 9 training days will not be delivered consecutively and will be structured / tailored around public course or organisational needs.
The program has been designed to provide flexibility to meet an individual or organisational requirement and can be delivered in block or modulised process.
Under the competency based training mode, all learners will acquire the required skills at differing rates. Nominal or nominated hours should not be the norm. It is best that a learner be allowed to learn new skills at their own rate to achieve competency. The trainer must be aware of the learner’s potential area of work and to ensure that relevant tasks and hazards are addressed in the training.
Qualification Outline
Total number of units = 9
6 occupational health and safety units including:
BSBOHS408A Assist with compliance with OHS and other relevant laws
and at least one of
BSBOHS405B Contribute to the implementation of emergency procedures
or
BSBOHS406B Use equipment to conduct workplace monitoring
plus
3 elective units
At least 2 of the elective units must be selected from the remaining occupational health and safety units or the elective units listed below.
The other elective unit may be selected from the remaining occupational health and safety units, the remaining elective units, anywhere else in the BSB07 Business Services Training Package or any other currently endorsed national Training Package, of which 1 unit may be selected from a Certificate III or Diploma qualification.
Elective units must be relevant to the work outcome, local industry requirements and the qualification level.
Units selected from other Training Packages must not duplicate units selected from or available within the BSB07 Business Services Training Package.

- In the event that only a partial RPL is achieved a Statement of Attainment can be issued for $82.77 per
unit of competency achieved. Additional ‘gap training’ can then be arranged at a cost of $261.11 per unit
for face to face training or $161.11 for distance learning.

Recognition of Prior Learning
This is a process that recognises the skills and knowledge that has been acquired through the course of life, vocational transitions, formal or informal training and education. In order to grant Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Topline Training Solutions must be confident that the applicant is currently competent against the endorsed industry or enterprise competency standards or outcomes specified in the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) accredited courses.
Methodologies of preparing evidence to substantiate the claims to gain formal recognition or part thereof could include certification, testimonials from clients, references from past employers and work samples.
